Hamilton blasts ‘unacceptable’ FIA inquiry into Wolff family

Earlier this week the FIA conducted a short analysis amid allegations that a conflict of interest had arisen due to Toto and Susie Wolff’s high-ranking positions within Formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton has criticized the FIA’s “unacceptable” investigation into Toto and Susie Wolff, claiming a conflict of interest.

The FIA announced earlier this week that it was investigating media speculation that a rival team had lodged a complaint with the governing body in relation to the couple.

The allegations related to an alleged exchange of information between Susie Wolff, in her role as managing director of the F1 Academy, and her husband Toto Wolff, team boss at Mercedes.

However, all opposing teams denied having lodged complaints with the FIA, which announced on Thursday that it had found no evidence of possible foul play.

Mercedes confirmed on Friday ahead of the FIA Awards Gala that it was in a legal dispute with the governing body over the matter.

Speaking to the media, Hamilton questioned the FIA’s process.

“It’s been a difficult week, but we know that our sport’s governing body has no reservations about the integrity of Susie Wolfe, one of our sport’s greatest female leaders to date. It’s really disappointing to see that they were trying to do nothing and try to suspect “no evidence whatsoever,” he said.

“Then apologizing at the end is just not acceptable. There are a lot of great people in this sport doing great work.

“There is a constant fight to really improve diversity and inclusion within the industry.

“But it seems that there are certain individuals in the leadership within the FIA that every time we try and make a step forward, they’re trying to pull us back. And that has to change.”
