Woods targets one event per month after competitive return

Dec 4 — Tiger Woods said on Sunday he expects to be able to play one event per month in 2024 after making his return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

The 15-time major champion finished 18th in the 20-a-side tournament, a tournament he organizes for his charity.

This was the former world number one’s first tournament since missing the Masters due to injury before undergoing surgery on his ankle in April.

The 47-year-old has maintained a limited competitive schedule after seriously injuring his leg in a car accident in 2021 and said his plan for next year is one match a month.
.
“Once a month seems appropriate,” he added. “I have a few weeks to recover and a week to get fit again. I’ll probably get into a rhythm,” he told Golf Channel.

He said he is looking forward to competing with his son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship (formerly known as the Father-Son Challenge), which begins Dec. 14 in Orlando.

Woods, who felt “mentally rusty” after Thursday’s first day’s play, said he was “ecstatic” with the outcome of the tournament.

“I’m moving faster and faster every day. It took me a while to understand on the first day. “The second day was faster, but today it was quick,” he said at a press conference.

“I feel like the game is not that far away, but I need to be in better shape.”

“I don’t have as much bone pain as before, but I still have to follow the same steps. “It takes a long time, that’s the unfortunate thing about getting older,” he said. — Reuters.
