RORY MCILROY TO CLAIM FIFTH DUBAI RACE TITLE AFTER WINNING MAX HOMA AT SUN CITY

Rory McIlroy claimed a record fifth Race to Dubai title after Max Homa won his first on the gridiron international.

Rory McIlroy claimed his fifth Race to Dubai title after American Max Homa won his first on the international stage.

Homa, who was a shining star on a disappointing Team USA Ryder Cup team, shot a 6-under 66 to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa on the DP World Tour.

The American finished the tournament at minus-19, four strokes ahead of one of Luke Donald’s new recruits, Nicolai Hojgaard.

Homa, who also has six PGA Tour wins, won the final round with six birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.

Victory was all but assured after he left the field with birdies on the 15th and 16th at Gary Player’s course in Sun City.

Homa said:
“That’s what you dream about. You want to participate in the war, and it’s fun to end it at the end.

” Elsewhere, Justin Thomas finished fourth with a score of minus 12.

Nicolai’s twin brother Rasmus, as well as Thorbjorn Olesen, Sebastian Soderberg, Hennie Du Plessis, Dan Bradbury and Ryo Hisatsune rounded out the top 10 .

Homa collected €961,124.05 for this win.

His victory means McIlroy, 34, cannot be caught up in the Race to Dubai rankings.

This is the 5th time he has finished first in order of merit on the old European Tour.

The Ulsterman won the honor in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2022.

He is expected to compete in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, where the top 50 players will compete in a $10 million prize tournament.
